Help Support The Society's New Boats

Oxbridge Malaysia Rowing

Boat Sponsorship/Rowing Fund

To fund the costs of shipping the boats, trailer, blades and other equipment to Malaysia as well as insuring, storing and maintaining them, the Society is organising a fund-raising drive. Our boats are extremely well-constructed, traditionally built wooden craft but - as with any type of boat - they need proper storage and regular maintenance if they are to provide reliable service in future years. So, please help contribute to their up-keep in whatever way you can. Your donation to our Rowing Fund will help support the development of competitive and recreational rowing in Malaysia and also help many young people from local schools learn to row. Please support this worthy cause.

Sponsorship Rates

  • Coxless Four: RM10,000

  • Pair: RM5,000

  • Single Scull: RM2,000

  • Single Blade: RM200

Background to the Donation of Our Boats

We were greatly assisted in obtaining the donation of our boats by some leading figures in the world of international rowing, most notably by immediate past President of Leander, Olympic oarsman and medallist Patrick Delafield, (Jesus, Cantab '65), who rowed in the 1966, 1967 & 1968 University Boat Races and Patrick Moore, (St. Catherine's, Cantab '63), who rowed at No. 7 in the 1965 Blue Boat and founded the Patrick Moore Scholarships.

We thank them for their help, but our greatest debt of gratitude goes to the donor of the boats themselves, Mr. Bill Dobson of Benalla, Victoria, Australia for his outstanding contribution and support.

You can see our boats being loaded in Melbourne, transported and off-loaded at Putrajaya Lake in the Slideshow below:

Bill has been an avid rower for many years and is a stalwart of the Melbourne Rowing Club. Bill's endeavours on our behalf have been exceptional and we hope that his generous gift will raise rowing standards in the Society still further, allow many more members to row and make the annual boat race an increasingly significant and competitive event in the Oxbridge Malaysia calendar.
